Which trial frame?
All three rotate the lens a full 360° in the inner ring and hold the lens center within 0.3 mm of the frame center.

Getting the most from a trial frame
Why use a trial frame
A trial frame suits patients who find a phoropter difficult: young children, older and low-vision patients, wheelchair users, and high prescriptions, because you can see the patient and set the vertex distance yourself. Patients can also walk, read and look around with a new prescription before the glasses are made.
Vertex distance
Put the strongest sphere in the back cell, closest to the eye, and record the vertex distance. For powers of ±5.00 D and above it should go on the prescription.
PD and height
Set the PD so each lens center sits in front of the pupil, and level the frame with the nose pad and height adjustment before you start.

Trial frame questions
Which trial frame should I choose?
The UTF-4880A is the all-round choice with monocular PD and a Ø38 mm aperture. The UTF-T4880R adds a fifth lens cell, a tilt knob and a vertex scale. The UTF-5470A is a compact frame for adults with a PD of 54 to 70 mm.
Will my trial lenses fit?
All three take trial lenses with Ø38 mm rims, such as our trial lens sets.
Why four or five lens cells?
Extra cells let you stack a sphere, a cylinder and a prism, or an auxiliary lens, without removing the others.
Do you supply children’s trial frames?
The UTF-4880A and UTF-T4880R start at a PD of 48 mm. Tell us your patients’ range and we confirm the best fit.
